Mindstep Trekkers help raise over £25,000 with help from the Foundation to fund a new gym for Welsh School

A new health and wellbeing suite has been officially opened at a Welsh school after an intrepid challenge organised by mental health charity The Mindstep Foundation.

Walking on behalf of the Conveyancing Foundation, a group of 18, the self-styled ‘Mindstep Trekkers’, took on the tough 177 mile sponsored hike down the Welsh-English border along the famous Offa’s Dyke national trail.

Funds raised enabled St Alban’s RC School in Pontypool to complete a dream project to open a state of the art facility dedicated to a former Head of Sixth Form and PE teacher Frances Margerison, and to a young man who died in 2018 after volunteering at the school, Max Davies.

Max, aged 22, was the eldest son of Lloyd Davies, one of the founders and trustee of the Mindstep Foundation, which was established to fund mental health research, awareness and support after Max died following a short battle with clinical depression.

St Alban’s Headmaster Stephen Lloyd said: “The Mindstep Foundation was the key charity behind the funding of this fantastic resource for the St Alban’s community. The source has sad origins in the untimely loss of Max Davies, who had completed work experience at the school, in the hope of pursuing a career in a similar setting.

His demise led to the determination of his family and their friends to raise money to support the school where he had made his own contribution. There is a plaque commemorating Max above the door to the suite, which lends it real meaning.

The health and wellbeing suite is also dedicated to a very special former member of staff, Frances Margerison who devoted herself to the pupils of St Albans for many years. Sadly, Frances passed away in January 2019 at the age of 54. She would be beaming with pride not only at the excellent facility we now have but also, as a former Welsh rugby player herself, at the achievements of former pupil, Sisilia Tuipulotu, who made her debut in the Women’s Six Nations for Wales against Ireland last month.

A life that inspires others goes on forever”.  The facility represents the legacy of these two wonderful people, both of whom would have been very pleased to meet the past students who kindly gave their time to support the opening event: Will Gregory who represented the championship-winning Newport Dragons U18 team, Thea Rogers, who represents GB Archery and Joe Cowell and Ben Moa who have both earned caps for Wales Under 20s internationals this season and have great careers ahead of them.”

He added: “I can’t thank Lloyd and the Mindstep Foundation enough because of the impact this will have on the lives of current pupils and also on the future generations of pupils to come to St Alban’s.

This is so significant for the wellbeing of our pupils. It’s phenomenal for their mental wellbeing. The difference a facility like this makes is incredible. They can come in here and socialise and be active. We have also already seen the difference between pupils and staff – it has really gelled the community spirit together.

Lloyd, Managing Director of Your Conveyancing Services in Newport, joined other donors and the school’s leadership team and Governors to cut the ribbon of the new facility.

Father of four Lloyd said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be involved with this project which we hope will make a real difference to the mental health and wellbeing of young people who attend the school.

Max spent a couple of happy weeks volunteering here in 2018, working with the teaching team alongside my great friend and a teacher at the school Richard McLennan. It is a fantastic school with wonderful pastoral care. Richard inspired us to fundraise for the gym during our pilgrimage along Offa’s Dyke and he was a mainstay in the team, injuring his ankle badly during the trek.  We trekked nearly 200 miles and climbed I don’t know how many peaks for this wonderful initiative – it just shows you what can be achieved when we all work together.

Max was a third year student at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent when he died, a talented rugby player and a former pupil at Monmouth School for Boys in Wales.

Lloyd said: “The Mindstep Foundation was established following Max’s passing to fund research into the causes of suicide and support those who have been bereaved or who are at risk of suicide. As Max’s family, our mission is to take steps, however small, towards ensuring that no-one suffers the loss of a loved one to suicide.

The Foundation has so far raised thousands of pounds for mental health research and support and is committed to raising £100,000 over the next two years to help fund landmark work at the University of Glasgow into the causes of suicide.   Thank you for the donations made by Your Conveyancing Services clients via the Conveyancing Foundation Charity Lotto which made the fundraising for the St Alban’s wellbeing centre a reality.

Joe joined Convey Law as IT Support Manager only 18 months ago before being promoted to IT Manager and has since built and developed the department into a cohesive unit of 10 which he is continuing to grow.

I am proud and delighted to be promoted to this senior role as Group IT Director. I joined the business to coordinate the company’s IT needs and bring together all the IT operatives into one thriving department.

As well as working hard to continually grow the department, I am also focusing on the development of the conveyancing case management, accounts and online portal system. This has been in place at Convey Law for over three years and is functioning extremely well and I am looking forward to playing a part in bringing that to market.”

Joe joined Convey Law from business software solutions firm Alphalogix in Chepstow, one of the largest providers of Sage software in the UK. He continued:

I joined Convey as we were heading into the pandemic so I am really proud of the work we have done as a department to develop such innovative systems which are playing and will play such a vital part in the ongoing success of Convey Law and its affiliates and will support the growth of the company.

My focus is on developing these systems and bringing onboard more talented developers to work with us and to take on the challenge. It is an exciting time to join us.

Managing Director of Convey Law, Lloyd Davies, praised Joe’s dedication to developing the group’s IT, commenting:

Joe has fully embraced his role and built a great IT team to assist him who are enjoying working together on the exciting projects that we are pioneering. The system is quite brilliant and the management tools are excellent for managing all aspects of a conveyancing business. I know from first-hand experience that our systems will make conveyancing quicker, easier and safer – for clients, Conveyancers and introducers of business.

We are constantly building and enhancing our IT platforms with our expert and specialist team of developers and Joe is absolutely the right person to lead us forward onto the next chapter.

Your Conveyancing Services Donates over £3,000 to SANDS in Support of Staff Member

Your Conveyancing Services has donated over £3000 to one of its conveyancers who has undertaken a charity challenge for national charity SANDS (the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) which supports families losing a baby.

The leading conveyancing practice, which has a growing reputation for charity support, pledged £1 for every 100 steps taken by conveyancer Lauren Forbes as she took on a personal challenge to take over 300,000 steps in a month.

She surpassed her total to take 310,000 steps, earning a donation of £3,100 from Your Conveyancing Services.

The funds were raised by the Your Conveyancing Services team through their clients taking part in the Conveyancing Foundation’s Charity Lotto, where clients of any legal practice or property company can donate a voluntary £10 at the end of their transaction, giving them a chance to win £500 in a monthly draw.

Lauren has been fundraising for SANDS in recognition of the support her brother and his wife received after their baby Finn was tragically stillborn at 32 weeks in 2013. In total, Lauren has now raised over £3385 for SANDS.

She said: “I am really proud to have raised this much money for SANDS. It has become a personal mission for me to raise as much as I can for them as they provide such incredible and much-needed support to families across the UK.

“SANDS really helped my brother Kyle and my sister-in-law Hannah when their little boy Finn was stillborn. Even when they went on to have their daughter April, who is now 7, my brother found it hard to walk past the delivery suite Finn was born in when he visited April and Hannah.

“SANDS provided vital help and support to them after an awful tragedy that no-one ever expects to go through when they have a baby. As their experience showed, it is not an event you can just get over but something that is always with you that you learn to live with through the invaluable help of organisations like SANDS.”

Funds donated to SANDS support anyone affected by the death of a baby. The charity works in partnership with healthcare professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and it promotes improvements in practice and funds research to help reduce the number of babies dying.

Last year, Your Conveyancing Services also donated £1000 to SANDS after it was nominated by Lauren for a donation from Lotto funds.

Managing Director of Your Conveyancing Services Lloyd Davies said: “Charity fundraising is very important to us as a business. At the heart of this is supporting staff’s group and individual fundraising efforts as well as donating funds to worthy charities nominated by staff.

“SANDS not only carries out some vital support work when families are most in need but also funds research into the causes of neo-natal death to try and prevent further families suffering the same heartache. We are delighted to make this donation to them in support of Lauren’s impressive challenge.”

The Conveyancing Foundation also helps other businesses to set up their own Charity Lotto to raise funds for charities they wish to support. It has helped companies raise over £800,000 for their chosen charities in the last decade.

A growing number of conveyancing and property firms use the Lotto to raise funds for charities close to their hearts.

Jess Smith, Operations Director of The Conveyancing Foundation, explained: “We are very keen to help others fundraise for their own charities through our Charity Lotto. It’s a simple idea which most clients are happy to support when they are buying or selling their house but its end results are incredibly powerful as it enables the Foundation to make much-needed charity donations.

“We are dedicated to helping any other company that is interested to set up their own Charity Lotto and start fundraising for the causes they care about.”

Your Conveyancing Services Donates Vital Funds to the Sparkle Appeal

The Sparkle Appeal has received a £1000 donation after it was among deserving charities nominated by staff at leading conveyancing legal practice Your Conveyancing Services, whose clients help to raise thousands of pounds for charity each year by taking part in the Conveyancing Foundation’s Charity Lotto.

The Sparkle Appeal was nominated for help by Your Conveyancing Services Managing Director Lloyd Davies after the charity made an appeal for funds as their fundraising has been badly hit by the pandemic.

Sparkle supports children, young people and their families with disabilities and/or developmental difficulties and provides support and leisure activities throughout South Wales through its Serennu Children’s Centre in Newport,Nevill Hall Children’s Centre in Abergavenny and Caerphilly Children’s Centre.

Lloyd Davies said the charity was desperately short of funding because of the COVID pandemic, explaining:

Their services are more in need than ever across Wales but COVID has drastically affected their fundraising.

Sparkle spokesperson Natalie Brown said the charity supported over 300 families a week by delivering activities and clubs such as independent living skills, youth clubs, play clubs, swimming sessions, and cooking, whilst also supporting families through specialist counselling, workshops, and information and advice services.

She said “Our guiding principle is to ensure that every child is fully supported to participate in valued childhood experiences and has access to the same range of opportunities, life experiences, activities and services, as any other child.

We are working hard to support our families at such a tough time but our work is not possible without the help and support of our communities to raise the funds we need to keep our services running. But, as you can imagine, COVID drastically changed the way we are fundraising.

Your Conveyancing Services is one of a growing number of companies raising funds for charity through the Conveyancing Foundation’s Charity Lotto where clients of any legal practice or property company can donate a voluntary £10 at the end of their transaction, giving them a chance to win £500 in a monthly draw.

Lloyd Davies, who is also Chairman of the Conveyancing Foundation, said the Lotto had helped companies raise over £800,000 for their chosen charities over the last decade.

I am delighted to see some of funds raised by Your Conveyancing Services clients going to such deserving charities as The Sparkle Appeal. We are very keen to help others fundraise for their own charities through our Charity Lotto so please do get in touch.

Your Conveyancing Services Donates Vital Funds to Lifesaving Welsh Homelessness Charity

Lifesaving homelessness charity Boomerang Cardiff which provides vital care and support to the homeless community in South Wales has received a much-needed charity donation from leading charity fundraising conveyancing legal practice Your Conveyancing Services.

It received £1,000 after it was nominated by a member of staff at Your Conveyancing Services, whose clients raised the funds by taking part in the Conveyancing Foundation’s Charity Lotto.

Boomerang Cardiff works hand in hand with the community to support and prevent homelessness and poverty and help those suffering critical living conditions and social isolation. The charity also assists low-income families and the homeless by providing the equipment they need while being homed or rehomed.

Your Conveyancing Services Head of Sales Kelly Leworthy, who has been raising funds for Boomerang since it was started and nominated it for a donation, says the organisation plays a crucial role in supporting those in need in and around Cardiff.

She explained: “I have seen many friends, friends of friends and their families benefit from Boomerang Cardiff which looks after the people of Cardiff and surrounding areas when they are in need of some help or even employment.

This really helps with our youth, especially when they are between the difficult ages of 16 – 18 and cannot get employment or proper work or cannot go to college for whatever reason.

During these times, young people can end up going down the wrong track, can be easily influenced or even suffer from poor mental health. Having support to get them into their first flat or having volunteer work which leads to permanent work is a massive help.

Their motto is: ‘Nobody can help everyone but everyone can help someone’ – which really sums up their fantastic attitude to helping this community and those in need step by step.”

Boomerang Operations Manager Dave Summers said the donation would be invaluable and would enable the charity’s collection service to run for ten weeks.

He explained: “We will use the £1,000 donation exclusively for fuel for our collection/delivery van. On average we use around £100 per week, so this donation will last us around 10 weeks which will enable us to carry out, over the course of the 10 weeks, at least 300 collections of furniture and also enable us to deliver at least 30 full essential home starter packs for families and individuals who are moving on from a homelessness situation.’’

Your Conveyancing Services is one of a growing number of companies raising funds for charity through the Conveyancing Foundation’s Charity Lotto where clients of any legal practice or property company can donate a voluntary £10 at the end of their transaction, giving them a chance to win £500 in a monthly draw.

Managing Director of Your Conveyancing Services and Chairman of the Conveyancing Foundation Lloyd Davies said the Lotto had helped companies raise over £800,000 for their chosen charities over the last decade.

He added: “The Foundation can help any legal practice or property company raise money through the Charity Lotto. I am delighted to see some of the funds raised by Your Conveyancing Services clients through the Lotto going to such deserving charities as Boomerang Cardiff.”

Senior Industry Figure Joins Your Conveyancing Services to Aid Expansion Plans

Experienced Conveyancer, Head of Legal Practice and current Deputy Chair of the Society of Licensed Conveyancers Laura Burkinshaw, has joined specialist residential conveyancing practice Your Conveyancing Services as a Legal Director.

Laura will work alongside current Legal Director Phill Edwards and the directorial team at the award-winning South Wales-based conveyancer as it enters a period of record growth. The Your Conveyancing Services Board of Directors is now nine-strong, with a female majority of six, which reflects a largely female workforce.

Laura joins Your Conveyancing Services from conveyancing company Sort Legal, which she joined in 2020 as Head of Legal Practice, after spending 11 years at Dezrezlegal as Head of Compliance and Legal Practice.

Your Conveyancing Services Managing Director Lloyd Davies said: “I am delighted to welcome Laura on board and I am confident she is the right person to strengthen our directorial leadership team and support our ambitious expansion plans as we enter 2022.

We currently have record staff numbers, having increased the size of the team by 50% to 150 individuals in 2021. We are recruiting and training five new conveyancers a month again throughout the course of this year, as well as welcoming experienced conveyancers.

We will be looking to open a second office in Newport as well as working HUB offices in Swansea and Leicester this year. Our sister company Convey365 will also be launching our ground-breaking IT case management system to the conveyancing industry this year so it is going to be a very busy time.”

He added: “Knowing Laura professionally for many years through our time together at the SLC and through the Conveyancing Association, I know that she brings with her a formidable skill set in terms of client service, practice and management. She is also a specialist in conveyancing IT software architecture and design and is ideally placed to support the launch of our Convey365IT system.

Laura, from Swansea, qualified as a Solicitor in 2006 and a Licensed Conveyancer in 2009, after completing her legal education at Glamorgan University. Laura helped to establish specialist conveyancing legal practice Dezreslegal, obtaining Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) approval for the business while growing and overseeing the business into a successful conveyancing practice, before joining Derby and Cardiff-based Sort Legal.

She said: “I am very excited to be joining Your Conveyancing Services as we enter an exciting time for the company and the industry. I wanted to work with a company who have the vision to help to move conveyancing into the digital future and, having worked with Lloyd on the SLC Board and being a member of the CA, it is clear to see that Lloyd and the rest of the Your Conveyancing Services Board have the drive to challenge current industry issues and problem areas.

One of my key strengths is working on and developing processes within case management systems and I will initially be working with the teams here to fine tune our innovative Convey365IT case management system before it is marketed to the wider industry this year.
